What does Hatha (Ha-ta)
Most of the modern schools of yoga stem from the hatha yoga tradition. It is also one of the commonly mispronounced Sanskrit words. It should be ha-ta, not
ha-tha, as it is so often said. Hatha means - forceful - storming the gates of enlightenment with its powerfully transformative practices. Hatha is also translated as ha meaning 'sun' and tha meaning 'moon'. Refering to the balance of both male, active, hot, sun and female, receptive, cool, moon, within all of us.
What does yoga (yo-ga) mean?
It usually means 'to yoke' or 'to bind' but it also means 'method' or 'technique'. The goal of yoga is to cease the fluctuations of the mind.

What does Om Shanti mean?
Om pronounced 'aum' is the sound of the universe. We are all part of this universe ---always moving, always changing, always breathing. When you chant Om, you are tapping into that vibration.
Shanti means peace. When you chant "Om shanti shanti shanti" it's an invocation of peace. In Buddhist and Hindu traditions you chant shanti three times to represent peace in body, mind and speech.
Is yoga a religion?
Yoga is not a religion. Yoga is a philosophy that started around 5,000 years ago in India. Scriptures from that time provide a framework for spiritual growth and mastery over the physical and mental body.
Is Yoga for me?
Yoga is for absolutely everyone! men, women, children, old and young alike, irrespective of your fitness level. Yoga is not competitive and accommodates all shapes and sizes. However, if you have any concerning health issues/medical problems, seek guidance from your GP before engaging in any form of exercise.
I’m not flexible-can I do yoga?
Flexibility is something you gain from practicing yoga, it's not a precursor to it, so, yes!! Everyone has to start from the beginning. This is hopefully the beginning of your Yoga journey and you are a perfect candidate for yoga. Come as you are and you will find that yoga practice will help you become more flexible and stronger too.
How often should I practice yoga?
It is not set in stone as to how often you should practice yoga. Any amount of weekly yoga practice is better than none, and as a beginner this is usually once a week for up to 90 mins at a local class.
Can I attend your class if I am pregnant?
No, however, I can recommend a great pregnancy teacher.
I am overweight – can I still do yoga?
Yogis/yoginis come in all shapes and sizes, of course you can still practice yoga.
What do I need to bring with me to a class?
Please bring a yoga mat, block, belt and a blanket for relaxation at the end of class. I do have mats etc if you need to borrow one.
What happens during a one to one session?
A one to one session begins by focusing upon yoga postures (asanas) that are suited to your current state of health and level of fitness. After several sessions you will develop confidence to design your own practice and have a life long love of yoga.
Is one to one yoga more beneficial that coming to your yoga classes?
Classes are useful for beginners and it's always nice being part of a group. One to one tuition can be beneficial for people with specific health issues or who are keen to take their yoga practice to the next level.
Who would benefit from one to one yoga?
